Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics.

When you apply for our Rent-To-Own program online, we ask for the information we need to review your application and to verify your identity, residence and employment:

• Your name and, if applicable, your spouse's name
• Your date of birth, the last four digits of your Social Security Number, and your driver's license number
• Your current and previous address, phone number and email address
• Your housing situation and your landlord's or mortgage lender's contact information
• Your employer, job title, time at your current job, and your supervisor's name and phone number
• One personal reference (name, relationship and phone number)
• The building you are interested in and the salesperson you spoke with

We never ask for your full Social Security Number online. We ask for it only in person, at the store, when you sign your rental contract. We do not run a credit check as part of a Rent-To-Own application.

How we use it. We use this information only to review your Rent-To-Own application, to verify the details you provide, and to prepare and administer any rental agreement that results. By checking the authorization box on the application you allow us to verify that information, which may include contacting the employer, supervisor, landlord or mortgage lender, and reference you listed. We do not sell or rent this information, and we do not use it for marketing.

How it is handled. Your application is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. It is not stored in our website's database. Instead, it is delivered by email, through our email delivery provider, to the North Country Storage Barns office staff who process Rent-To-Own applications.

How long we keep it. We keep application information only as long as we need it to process your application and administer any resulting rental agreement, or as long as the law requires.

Prefer paper? You can download the printable application on our Rent-To-Own page and bring it to any of our three locations instead of submitting it online.

Web designers have access.

We share Rent-To-Own application details, including the last four digits of your Social Security Number and your driver's license number, only as needed to process your application: with our email delivery provider, which transmits the application to our office, and with the employer, landlord or mortgage lender, and reference you list, to verify your information.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Our contact form and Rent-To-Own application are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which sends information about your device and browser to Google to help tell people from bots. Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

Rent-To-Own applications and other form messages are delivered to our office by email through Resend, our email delivery provider.
